Campaign update – May 25, 2024
We successfully hired a respectable cast led by two legendary Hollywood actors, Tim Roth and Armand Assante. The rest of the cast is led by a dozen internationally renowned actors with a number of roles in Hollywood film projects. In the process so far, with the help of the involved investors, members of the crowdfunding community, business partners, and donors, we managed to reach 85 percent of the target budget for the production of the film 260 days, i.e., 2,548,574 euros. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a sufficient budget to hire Matt Dillon, so he will not be a member of the cast of the movie production. The film will be shot in English, and its filming will take place from May 27 to June 28 at several locations in Osijek-Baranja County. After the end of filming, we send the film to Hollywood for post-production, which will last up to 6 months. We expect the release of the film at film festivals and its preview in the first half of next year.
On this occasion, we inform you that the current crowdfunding campaign continues until October 1. The aim of the extended crowdfunding campaign will be to increase the budget for the Hollywood post-production of the film, i.e., to reach the total budget of the film in the amount of 3 million euros. Reaching the new goal would allow us to hire at least one top name in the world of music post-production. We believe that in the event of success, they would without a doubt manage to upgrade the project as a whole and make it even more attractive for the international and domestic markets.
About the project
The book “260 Days”, authored by Marijan Gubina, was published in 2011 and has since been printed in over 46,000 copies, translated into 15 languages, and captured the hearts of readers worldwide. It describes the tragedy of the six-member Gubina family during the Croatian War of Independence, who were deprived of their freedom and subjected to the most horrific tortures for a full 260 days. The book is written from Marijan’s perspective, who was an innocent ten-year-old boy at the time.
Despite all the horrors experienced, the book resonates particularly with Marijan’s message of spreading peace and forgiveness, reminding us of the incredible strength of the human spirit amidst the hardest trials. The Croatian National Theatre in Osijek brought the story to the stage in 2015, winning six awards and becoming a true hit. The ticket demand was so great that there were not enough seats for every performance, leading us to think about the next step.
The idea for a film project came to life when the book “260 Days” reached the hands of film director and producer Jakov Sedlar, whose enthusiasm sparked a series of events. Soon after, thanks to Mr. Sedlar, the book also landed in the hands of Hollywood screenwriter Barry Morrow, an Oscar winner for the film “Rain Man.” A few months after reading the book, Barry Morrow signed on as the script supervisor for the “260 DAYS” film.
We have successfully engaged a cast including legendary Hollywood actor Armand Assante, Pip Torrens, Sam Hazeldine, about thirty British actors, and Croatian actors Lujo Kunčević, Pero Eranović, and Konstantin Haag. Through diligent work on this project, we have secured 2,465,000.00 euros for filming and post-production in Hollywood. The film will be shot in English, with filming taking place between May 27 and July 15, 2024, at several locations in Osijek-Baranja County and one location in Vukovar. After filming, the film will undergo post-production in Hollywood, which is expected to last 3 to 6 months. The film’s debut is planned for film festivals in 2024/25, with a wider release in early 2025.
While this is much more than we could have imagined initially, we also contacted several additional Hollywood actors during this project. The book and the script for the film “260 DAYS” impressed them so much that they expressed a desire to participate in the film. Among them are renowned actors Tim Roth, John Malkovich…
Although we want to include them in our team, we need more funds to cover the cost of their engagement. For this reason, we are launching a campaign to raise funds to engage another Hollywood actor. That way, we’ll ensure that this film of great importance to Croatia is competitive in the global market because of Marijan’s moving story, current world events, and, ultimately, because of the great actors.
With this film, we aim to continue reaching people’s hearts and evoking emotions worldwide, just as the book “260 Days” has done so far. We want this story to reach everyone, regardless of age, nationality, religion, or race. We need your help raising the funds to hire another Hollywood actor, enabling us to tell this important story from Croatia’s recent history in the best possible way.
